Joel's answer:
We didn't really need a crib until our kids were old enough to wander off in the middle of the night. Until then, they were with us; we had a kind of box in our big bed, I guess it was some sort of tiny co-sleeper. At some point, we used a drawer. When crib time came, we had something pretty basic, and it worked fine. In hindsight, we didn't need anything so big. The Ikea one is simpler. There's no reason to think about a Transformer crib; they're expensive, and they suck as beds. Our kids sleep on the floor anyway. That complicated Graco thing sucks; the most basic possible pack-n-play thing would be better for traveling; it's less to carry, and all you need. Since we already had the big crib, we didn't use the pack-n-play for sleeping at home, but it would have worked fine for that.
