Julia Lam is in the market for
a camcorder
It's been a long time... can't I just use my digital camera's video record function?

Andy Hilal: These days the answer is pretty much 'yes,' and mostly for two reasons. 1 - the video recording devices inside phones and cameras have continued to improve in quality. They are much better than they used to be. 2 - the most common thing people do with their videos these days is share them online, and you don't want super high quality for that. Just good enough will do. If you are mostly interested in online sharing, then I wouldn't bother with a full-blown camcorder. The benefits of a dedicated camcorder are longer recording time, more battery life, higher quality video output, and interoperability with higher-end editing equipment. Probably better sound, too. If you need something robust, a camcorder is for you. If you are just shooting 20-second clips of the dog to send to grandma, then yeah stick with your phone / digital camera.28 months ago
