• Melanie Barbezat is in the market for a crib

I have found conflicting measurements on the height of this crib. I need to know how tall it is from the floor to the top of the front panel. I'm short and looking for something I can reach over to lay the baby down.

  • Andy Hilal: The official height in the catalog is 33 and 1/8 inches and the top of the front panel measures at just about 33 for me (it's on carpet so hard to get a more precise measurement).

Placing a small footstool next to the crib (or even just a large book for a couple inches of height) can help a lot too.

Good luck Melanie! Let us know what you decide!

    • Melanie Barbezat: Thank you so much! I have an expensive crib for my first son that folds down in the front. It's a Baby's dream safety gate crib. (Not a dropside, that are no longer considered safe, but a gate that folds down.) I love it, it works perfectly for me and is only about 31.5 inches when the gate is down. However, my first son is still using it and we're not ready to put him in a toddler bed just yet. We're also not inclined to purchase another $500 crib. So, I've been looking for something that is inexpensive, modern looking, and lower to the ground. Ikea cribs seem to fit the bill nicely. But since they are currently not in stores or online I can't see or measure them in person. I love the look of this new Sundvik crib and was set on waiting for that one to come to the stores. (We'll use a co-sleeper for the first few weeks/months anyway). However, I was checking it out on the Canadian Ikea website, since the US one doesn't currently have any cribs, and they listed the height as 34 5/8 inches. That's a bit too tall for me. I have the catalog and it lists it as 33 1/8, like you said. That is more workable. So, thank you so much for measuring for me! Now I know we can just wait until it is available to purchase. I didn't want to be stuck with a newborn and a toddler and realize the cribs were too tall and then have to start this search all over again. It's amazing how tall they make cribs these days and how difficult it is to find something lower. Sub-5 foot Moms need cribs too!

    • Andy Hilal: I noticed that the crib was no longer available in the US. I hope it is a temporary situation, but once I waited 8 months for a sofa to become available again and then they removed it from the catalog entirely :( Hope that doesn't happen in this case! I do have another suggestion. If you can get the Canadian version, even if it is a few inches higher, you can saw a couple inches off the legs pretty easily. An ordinary hack saw would do the job in minutes. This might even help with your existing $500 crib. Good luck in any case! I had some back problems recently so I literally feel your pain!
